It's a seasonal song and so gets lumped in with Christmas carols.

Is that a Christmas Song?
by Lilycurly ini came home this morning and my mother and little brother started to hum a tune and asked me if it was a christmas song...turns out it was "carol of the bells".
and my jw father had been whistling it the night before after he heard it on a commercial.
when my mother asked him, isn't that a christmas song?

by yaddayadda in.
how about every lurker on here and all others spreading the news that unhappy jw's worldwide are to do a general boycott of all jw related activities (meetings, fs, etc) in for the entire month of february 2006. would be interesting to see what happens to the us average publishers for that month.. power to the people!

Then I probably don't pay attention to them anyway. Major corporations are crushed the small businesses. I don't need to lift a finger.

Depression, Holidays & JW's
by oldflame inwhen you were a witness did you get depressed around the holidays ?
tell me what your feelings were then and now.

I didn't get too depressed until I got older. Then it was my birthday that depressed me more than anything. Eventually Christmas came to depress me and I would spend it considering suicide. Now I just consider it all the time. Why limit myself to once a year, that's what I say.

I'd need a list of JW businesses.

Hey, I'm in Florida too.
And I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that, though I'm not sure you fully get the joke yet.

Like the JWs are going to go "Wow, I'm unhappy, so I think I'll skip the meetings in February."
Seriously.

If it wasn't for my current living conditions I would celebrate Christmas with a Black Mass this year. Maybe I can whip something together and head into the woods or something.

I know how you feel. I live every day thinking about it. I'm writing a book, actually. A lot of it is about that. I write a lot of poetry also. A lot of the music I listen to is very influenced by those sorts of themes as well.

How could a dead man seek to kill Baby Jesus?
by THE SHOOTIST inhistorians say that king herod the great the famous baby killer who sought to kill baby jesus, died in the year 4 b.c.. now all those religious groups like the jws who believe jesus was born oct 1/2, 2 b.c.
seem to have a real problem reconciling that with historians.
how could a man dead for 2 years carry out this act of aggression against the son of god?

If the slaughter was only in Bethlehem, why did they flee all the way to Egypt? And why are there no historical records of any such thing taking place?

Is the "Good News" really about 1914?
by rockhound in"the good news" that jehovahs witnesses preach from door to door, world wide, has a definite theme that is different than "the good news" preached by the churches of christendom.
"let the honest-hearted person compare the kind of preaching of the gospel done by the religious systems of christendom during all the centuries with that done by jehovah's witnesses since the end of world war i in 1918. they are not one and the same kind.
that of jehovah's witnesses is really "gospel" or "good news," as of god's heavenly kingdom that was established by the enthronement of his son jesus christ at the end of the gentile times in 1914.

As the article I posted in another thread here mentioned, Aleister Crowley made a pretty big deal about 1914 as well. He called it the end of the Aeon of Osiris and the beginning of the Aeon of Horus, the crowned and conquering king. Both Russell and Crowley were fairly obsessive about Egypt, both using Egyptian logos and motifs. Crowley believed that WWI began because of his publication of the Book of the Law.
Crowley had been a member of the Golden Dawn and formed the OTO, both of which may have Masonic ties.
